Participating Agencies

1. Who is eligible to apply for the programme?

We welcome applications from fresh graduates and mid-career professionals, as well as in-service public officers. Applicants should have a university degree and be effectively bilingual (i.e. able to read, speak and write both English and Chinese). They should possess a strong willingness to learn about China and China-related issues.

2. I am a Singapore permanent resident / foreigner. Am I eligible?

We welcome applications from Singapore citizens, permanent residents and foreigners. At the same time, we wish to highlight that only a limited number of positions will be available for permanent residents and foreigners due to the nature of the jobs. We will assess each application to determine whether there is a suitable position for the applicant.

3. Would those with prior China-related work experience have a significant advantage?
We are looking for candidates with a variety of attributes, such as good communication skills, positive attitude and demonstrated leadership qualities. Prior China-related work experience is only one of the factors that we consider in the selection process. Those without prior China-related work experience should still apply – the programme is structured to provide such candidates with a work stint in China.

4. Am I eligible for the programme if I am currently working in China or have previously worked in China?
We welcome applications from mid career professionals with substantial experience working in China. However, such applicants may not require the work immersion offered by this programme and may want to apply directly to Ministries and Statutory Boards for China-related job vacancies. Please refer to the Public Service career portal www.careers.gov.sg.

5. What is the selection process?
Applications to the ODP (China) are open throughout the year. Shortlisted applicants will undergo selection tests and interviews by the relevant agencies, and will also be put through an English writing test and a Chinese Proficiency Test (i.e. the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi, HSK - Level 6). You can refer to this website for more information on the HSK.

6. Which agency and job will I be deployed to? Do I have a choice?
In your application to the programme, you will be able to indicate the job positions you are interested to work in. Click here for a list of detailed job descriptions. Thereafter, you will be given the opportunity to confirm your job choices.

If you are selected for the programme, we will take into account your choices, and our assessment of your suitability for the various job positions and the corresponding Ministries or Statutory Boards, to determine the parent agency that you will be deployed to. You will be informed of your deployment when you receive our offer.

7. Is there a bond for the programme?
There will be a Minimum Service Period which will commence immediately upon completion of your China attachment. It will be of a duration which is 2 times the length of the period of your China attachment, subject to a maximum period of one year. The Minimum Service Period may be served in your parent agency in Singapore or, if applicable, in the China office of your parent agency, at its discretion.

We will continue to accept applications throughout the year.
