Appointment of Permanent Secretary (Defence Development) for Ministry of Defence

          Lieutenant-General (LG) Melvyn Ong Su Kiat (王賜吉), 48, former Chief of Defence Force will be appointed Permanent Secretary (Defence Development), Ministry of Defence with effect from 1 June 2023. He will retire from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and join the Administrative Service on the same date.

2          LG Ong joined the SAF in 1994 on being awarded an SAF Overseas Scholarship. He held various key command and staff appointments before his appointment as Chief of Defence Force between March 2018 and March 2023. His prior appointments in the SAF included Commanding Officer of the Army Deployment Force, Brigade Commander of the 7th Singapore Infantry Brigade, Chief Guards Officer and Chief of Army. Between 2013 and 2014, LG Ong was seconded to the Civil Service as Deputy Chief Executive of the then-newly established Early Childhood Development Agency, Ministry of Social and Family Development.
